In this post, I'm going to share my story on how I launched my digital marketing business (Afrinubi Solutions, LLC) on Social Security Disability. Before I begin, I want to say living on social security disability is difficult.
For those who are currently applying, if you get approved you'll realize your monthly checks won't be enough income to survive on. You have to make sure you have a game plan on how you're gonna make more money while living on a fixed income or SSDI, please keep an open mind when it comes to making money online.
You should now know in 2022 you don't have to get a part time job to maximize your social security and that you can start a business as well.
What's My Story & Background?
I've been on social security disability since 2011 at the age of 29 years old. It's been 11 years of getting a disability check. I've had several jobs and I ended up getting fired, quit, laid off, or I would just walk off the jobs due to no accommodations because of my medical conditions.
During my first 4 years on social security disability I thought things were great because I rarely worked while I received my monthly checks and I was still in college.
During those times, I was just trying my best to take care of my health; regular doctor visits, taking medications, trying to eat better, getting rest, and more physical activity.
After graduating from college in 2012, I couldn't find a job in my major which was graphic, web design, digital marketing, and my business certificate. Also, I was living on section 8 (government housing) and thought it was just fine to have affordable housing.
It's okay to have help with housing but there are several limitations on these government programs. I had several job interviews and companies wouldn't hire me and I felt horrible.
I had low self-esteem and self worth. In January of this year (2022), I told myself, I would just stop applying for jobs and start my own LLC but before I share that, let me share more of my history about my employment and limited income situation.
What Made Me Start My Own Business on Social Security Disability?
During 2014 to 2019, I kept working off and on and it would be the same pattern of getting fired, quitting, laid off, and walking off jobs because of my medical conditions.
Then in 2016, I had an ankle fusion surgery and I was unable to walk for a few months, I used a walker and wore foot boot for my left ankle because of the pain.
I would be at home watching YouTube videos, and I started making videos about my ankle fusion journey and after getting several views on those videos I started making ad revenue from those videos.
I also started doing affiliate marketing; making videos about products and services that I would/use on and online offline and I would make product review videos sharing what I bought adding affiliate links and coupon codes in the videos.
Also, I joined several affiliate programs and starting making more revenue from different programs as well. Below you see some income proof of the money I've made.
As you can see, I made income from Tee Public, Hello to Natural, and Spreadshirt.com, just to name a few companies that I joined. (This is just some of the income from the year of 2021 but not all of it.
Then I started making more profits from each of these companies on consistent basis and I just realized that I should stop applying for jobs and focus on my talents and skillsets.
From 2020 until now, I've been making passive income on a regular basis after selling clothing, affiliate marketing, and selling my some of my digital marketing services.
